Definitely time for tea

A tea post with Abi

Come in! Perfect timing - and, just to be clear as I have had a few comments, this was composed at 9.15 Sunday evening!!  Tea? Coffee? Or shall we move straight onto a glass of wine?

Phew! It's been quite a weekend. I think I deserve a drink. Even busier than usual.

On Friday our good friend Godmanda (R's name for his Godmother, Amanda) came over for dinner. Since her husband was away, she brought her night things with her and stayed over. She is always an easy guest, but we don't have a spare room so she was on the floor in the living room and that requires politeness at 8am! I had to chuck her out at 9 so I could take the children to their drama lessons. They are in different classes so R and I worked through some of his homework while M was rehearsing then vice versa. Unfortunately, I didn't manage to make much of a dent in my own pile of marking.

M had a birthday party on Saturday afternoon, so I got a little gardening done in between showers then R, P and I had planned to share a quiet Chinese takeaway while we watched the auditions of Britain's Got Talent.  Did you see it? I enjoyed the Irish dance troupe and the young soloist who sang Valjean's song from Les Miserables, but the rest were rubbish. Don't you think so?

Unfortunately, our Saturday night took an unexpected turn when P took a phone call from an old university friend of his. He lives up in Cumbria. He knew they hadn't met for about 6 years but he was stranded at Heathrow airport with a credit card that didn't work and could he come to us with his 2 eldest sons?

Well, obviously we couldn't say no, so I scurried around and found sleeping bags and spare duvets. R volunteered to sleep downstairs so we could offer them one bed between 3. M wanted to do the same but I knew she wouldn't sleep so I ended up having to promise her a 'camp-in'/DVD evening with me next weekend. She  was a bit scared when they arrived - the 'children' were both over 6ft tall! It turned into a late night, but the kids did me credit and P caught up with an old mate.

Can I fill your glass? Sorry for wittering on but I haven't finished telling you about this mad weekend yet.

No chance of a lie-in on Sunday, despite our late night, as I was committed to helping at Sunday School so the kids had to come with me. A couple of hours of fingerpainting and cake decorating (with a bit of Bible study hidden in there) put me in a better mood & by the time we got back home our unexpected guests were dressed and had made a plan.

They couldn't get onto a flight until the evening so P took them for lunch at his Snooker Club and then drove them back to the airport, leaving me free to take R into town for the Scout St. George's Day parade. M and I went shopping for a DVD for next week's 'camp-in' (she is not the sort of child to whom you make empty promises-she'll hold you to them every time!)  After the short parade and service, I bought the kids McDonalds to thank them for their good behaviour then we all went home to tackle our respective homework.

Thanks for coming over, I needed a friend to talk to after all that. Shame we have to go back to work tomorrow. Still, only a week until we get another Bank Holiday. Take care. See you next ,month.

Oh dear, things must be bad if you need a drink before 8am on a Monday morning! I'll pass on the wine thanks, even though it's lunchtime now. Hope you find time to chill this week.

Wow - and I thought my weekends were busy! You certainly packed a lot into just a couple of days, and I'm glad that you and your hubby were able to spend some quality time with friends.

That is an extremely busy weekend - actually, I often find that your posts remind me of us ... similar ages of kids equates to all round busy times!

You sound like a perfect hostess. Godmanda reminds me of my sister-in-law who is such an easy guest and who drops by every now and then with out too much notice (but absolutely no fuss), and she's always bearing a bottle of spirits. So it's all good!
Nice to catch up with you,
Rinda

Definitely a busy weekend - glad you were able to help out the stranded at Heathrow friend, we've had a couple of those calls too. Hope the camp-in is enjoyed too :)

That was quite a busy weekend, but it is always good to be able to come to the aid of an old friend. Hopefully your bank holiday was more restful.
