Storytelling Sunday- Pick Your Precious

This year, for Storytelling 2013, Sian has challenged us to tell a story each month based on something which is precious to us. I love this idea, I'm still hunting for the right monthly challenge for this year, and I love the idea of a 12-page mini book (or more) telling the stories of my most precious things.

There are not many pictures hanging in my living room, but those that are there are all special for a similar reason.
This is the church in Humpolec, a small town in the Czech Republic, where I taught for 2 years. The picture was painted by one of my students and given to me as a gift. I love it, not only for the memories it evokes of adventure and friendship, but also for the blocks of colours and the ever-so-slightly-wrong perspective which make it unique.
This is our house in Cherence-le-Roussel,  a village in rural Normandy. It was painted by my mother-in-law who, since retiring, has discovered a talent for watercolour painting.

Finally, a painting by P, done in Cherence, of a still life. The subject is a copy of a painting by Manet, and I particularly admire the way in which P has painted the water in the glass vase.

But that's fascinating..what a place to have taught in - I bet there are lots more stories you could tell. Oh, go on! one or two, maybe?

Thanks Kirsty. I'm glad you like the idea and I'm looking forward to seeing what else you are going to tell us about in 2013. And you have me thinking, I might have to do a mini album blog hop at the end of the year

This is anice challenge Kirsty, and a lovely way to start. I bet the picture of the house in Charence keeps you going toward the long summers!

They are all beautiful photos and such lovely stories and memories behind them.

How lovely to have some original art work in your home and that each one is so personal to you. I love the 'wonky' perspective of the Humpolec painting.

The ever-so-slightly-wrong perspective is what makes this painting so special. That makes it a precious item given to you by a student you will never forget.

There is nothing more precious than some original artwork that has these wonderful memories attached. They are really beautiful Kirsty.

There seems to be lots of mini albums being planned. Isn't it fabulous that stories are also inspiring creativity? I love your paintings. I have never been one for hanging prints in the house (unless it is somewhere I have been and a photo wouldn't do it justice) and I also have some paintings that are special to me.

I'm now wondering about a mini album - love the idea of a blog hop as such deadlines tend to add motivation. Pictures up on the wall are one of my thoughts for another post - thank you for sharing yours. Your family have talent.

Oh how lucky you are to be surrounded by art with its own memories. That is a lovely watercolor especially.

Love the not quite right perspective of the Humpolec painting. I'm liking your idea of a mini album.
