A scrapbook page with....

...stitching... and distressing... and handmade embellishments..... and a handcut title.

All the things I admire on other people's layouts and rarely attempt myself. Or at least not all together. I enjoy making my own embellishments. I often ink and/or distress the edges of papers. But it is unusual for me to spend this much time on a layout which includes so many different techniques.

I have to say, I love it.

The photos of my daughter's ballet class were taken on my phone and were pretty ropey so I changed them to sepia and put several small ones into a single 6x4 collage.  This, and the pretty Stella Rose paper by My Mind's Eye, gave me the idea for a vintage-style layout.

I gutted enough of the background paperand used off-cuts of the teal polka dot (which I think is also My Mind's Eye) to make a couple of pinwheels . The dressmaker's dummy was inked with a stencil and I found a sheet of freebie paper from a magazine which fitted the theme perfectly and also had 3 word scalloped circles.

Having started distressing and inking, I decided to go the whole hog and stitched lacing in 2 places. I also stitched the buttons to the pinwheels instead of lazily gluing them as I normally do, and I like the effect much more.

I almost always use alphabet stickers for my title, but I couldn't find any that suited so I created the title in PSE, printed it mirror-image on the reverse of a sheet of Core'dinations cardstock and cut it out by hand.

The first week back at school has been very full on, especially considering I am supposed to work part-time. In addition to my teaching load, I did 3 hours of enrolment in my lunch break and spent 7 hours at A and E with R only to be told he was fine ( a big relief of course, but a waste of time I could have done without). Today, having completed 3 of the 4 large sets of college work I have to do this weekend, I really needed some scrapbooking therapy, and that is what I produced.

Hope next week treats you well. Can you believe we are almost 1/3 of the way through 2012?

I really admire how you have made the elements on your page - I have absolutely NO patience and could never do all of that wonderful detailed work!

I hope the next week is less chaotic for you!
