What's on You Workdesk Wednesday?

Actually, not much, as I had a big tidy up yesterday.

Instead I have a dining table full of unwanted presents (not all mine - how ungrateful would that make me look!) which I am hoping to sell over the course of today. I'm hosting a 'Gift Swap' - a little like a Blue Peter Bring and Buy Sale, for Brits old enough to remember them - in aid of White Lodge.

Most of you probably don't know that my son has hemiplegia, a form of cerebral palsy. You won't know for the simple reason that I haven't mentioned it much on this blog. It's not like it's a secret but crafting and blogging are my escapes from real life and so I haven't really wanted to spill loads of personal stuff.
Suffice it to say; when R was 8 weeks old he suffered a brain injury severe enough to keep him in Great Ormond Street Hospital for a week and leave him with hemiplegia. If you want more details, look at this website - even after 9 years, I'm not good at answering questions about his condition without crying.
R was cared for from the ages of 2-5 at White Lodge Centre, a fantastic facility in Surrey whom we thank for allowing him to cope now in mainstream school.

Anyway, today's Gift Swap is to raise a bit of money for White Lodge, so wish me luck. I'll update tonight with how much we made.

The Stamping Ground is the place to go to see more productive desks.

What a fabulous thing to do for a place that clearly is very important to you and your family.

Thank you for the lovely comment on my blog, I felt truly honoured to see the ponies and if I never see them again I will always carry lovely memories of an honoured time with them.

Love Mandy xxx

That's an excellent idea for getting unwanted but very usable stuff out of your house whilst raising some funds for a great cause too. Hope it all goes well and you sell it all.

Hi Kirsty, and very well done indeed with the fundraising efforts. I am so glad that you've had such excellent support with your little boy, and that he's able to cope with mainstream education. My grandmother suffered left hemiplegia after a stroke and it was very debilitating. She could not even propell her own wheelchair. Sometimes I think paraplegia is easier, or any problem confined to the legs, leaving one's arms unaffected, because you can at least use conventional mobility aids. I know this from my own experience. I am sure that with continuing support, and with all that you have already proved yourself to be, he will do really well in life. Who knows what he might not achieve?

Looking at your Monday post, you've got a beautiful little girl too!

Happy belated WOYWW - I'm trying to get through the list before the end of the week! Shoshi #84
