There's no picture which is appropriate for this post, but something has occurred which is making me feel very old and I feel the need to share. A problem shared is a problem halved, and all that.
The fact of the matter is that, at not yet 40, I am officially losing all my faculties!
As some of you will know, I've worn glasses for ages, but only recently have I needed to have them on all the time at work. Now, this week, I have been fitted for a hearing aid. My hearing loss is apparently only 'moderate', but the difference these digital aids are making is amazing and shocking. I can hear my fingers tapping on this keyboard; I can hear the filter in the fishtank bubbling; I can distinguish all the silliness R and M are talking, even though they are in the next room and not, for once, shouting; I can even hear myself breathe. This is going to take a lot of getting used to. I've lived in my semi-silent world for so long that to think this is normal for most people is, frankly, wierd!
I don't know how long it will be before I'll be able to wear them all day - at the moment I can only manage about an hour before the background buzzing drives me mad. The technician who programmed them told me it wasn't the aides buzzing but her computer I could hear and, of course, I couldn't prove it wasn't because I couldn't hear her computer at all without them! If anyone has similar experiences, I'd like to hear from you.
Meanwhile, speak softly, please!

Oh Kirsty my Dad wear something that sounds similar andhe takes his out at parties and gatherings becasue the wrong sounds get magnified....it took him a while to get used to stuff - especially the crack of plates being stacked and cutlery bashed together at family meals and such..he thought we were doing it on purpose. I dunno about the buzzing, but you do - if it seems wrong, then go back and bug 'em!
