What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday? 108 - Lots of new goodies

Oh I do enjoy this blogging thing. On my desk today are no fewer than 3 free pressies from friends in Blogland. The little blue mini book is a new product by Scrapbookery and I have the onerous (not) task of playing with it and then blogging my opinion. Watch this space next month for my review.
In my WOYWW easel are 2 handmade cards I recieved with gifts.
'Making Christmas Scrapbooks' and the bead board are both gifts from the lovely Mel. I do know it's the middle of summer, but don't for a moment think I'm going to wait until December to read my new book. I lurve Christmas at any time of year.

Mel also sent me this gorgeous little birdhouse which I had admired on her blog. It already has a place on my new bookcase. I'm so happy to get my books back on display, having waited for new bookcases since last October. The few empty shelves will be filled as soon as I get my last boxes of stored books from my Mum's, but in the meantime, it makes a fab lightbox for flash photography.

You can also see my AJ and a trial 'Kite' page, on which I am trying out an idea before I commit it to a full 12x12 page. I haven't quite got the hang of using AJing just for the process; at the moment it is my place to try out techniques and products. Here I inked the background with cotton wool and my first ever Distress Ink. (Hate to admit it, but it went on like a dream, I might yet find myself succumbing to Holtz-mania), then printed with bubble wrap, something I have seen done loads of times but never tried. I learned that promarkers show through to the other side of the page and my photo kites are not actually kite-shaped; they are diamonds. The pink facing page is a quote about tea using another technique I have admired but never used - journalling inside wavy lines. This was successful and I susequently used it on the 4th birthday LO which I posted last week.

If you want to see some other desks and work in progress, head over to Julia at the Stamping Ground.

In other news this week, my daughter, M, has just received a fantastic report at the end of her nursery year, and my son R performed in his class special assembly and joined in his School Sports Days (yes, plural) with gusto. I find parenting the hardest job ever, but moments like these make it worthwhile.

Oh, how lovely to see the birdhouse in its new home :)

By the way, I forgot to mention earlier that I've been finding a few of your layouts in scrapbooking mags as I've been decluttering - exciting! I've kept all those pages xx

That is such a good idea to use it as a neutral background - I have a few white boxes on the wall Imay have to start utilising them in this way - TFS

great blog post. Love the new book shelves and I thought before I read it, that empty spot would make an excellent photo box. Vickie #39
