Counterfeit SMASH book

I hadn't even heard of Smash* books until the Counterfeit Kit blog issued their summer challenge, and then suddenly they were everywhere in Blogland.

And I wanted one.
But they were sold out everywhere.
So I decided to counterfeit my own version to use as a family journal in the summer holidays.

I didn't want to spend a fortune so, although I love the Kraft covers on the original Smash* books, I went for a £1.99 watercolour pad from The Works. The Cover is decorated with a mish-mash of letter stickers and cutout heads pf the 4 of us. My idea is that I will keep this book in my bag and all the family can contribute whatever they want to it throughout our summer in France. I have started a collection of France- and travel-related bits and pieces. I have a date stamp, a couple of journalling pens and a glue pen and I found several envelopes which don't fit with any card blanks I have (how does that happen?) which we can use to keep extra pieces in.

My biggest challenge with this project will be to keep a lid on my inner control freak and allow the kids free rein. I have my scrapbook and art journal which I guard jealously. This is meant to be a family journal and I think it will make a fab alternative record of our holiday, as well as having the potential to keep the kids quiet in French restaurants and on long ferry journeys!

That sounds like a wonderful idea! You could always think about letting them keep it in their bag and add to it when they wanted without you looking at all - it would be a lot of fun to not peep until they were nearly finished (though of course that's a case of do as I say and not as I do, because I don't know if I'd be able to resist adding bits either!)

Yay, you did it - and you did it beautifully! I love your cover, I haven't done anything with the cover of mine but you've given me ideas now, thank you :)

Have a safe and fun trip. I'm willing to bet having the whole family contribute will make your eventual journaling even more tender
