Rinda's Scavenge Hunt Round up

I can't believe it's officially the end of summer. Still, Autumn is my favourite season, so I'm not too depressed. I had a fantastic summer - lovely weather and good company in France, some amazing Olympic action and the added fun of searching for Rinda's Scavenge Hunt items. I found 19/21, plus the 2 substititute items so that makes 21. Here are my favourite of my finds. You can see Rinda's here
1. A pier Substitute item - heart-shaped stones
2. A clothesline
3. Roadside stalls selling stuff

4. A border

5. A train
6. Historic landmark
7. Someone playing an insturment
8. Statue of an Angel
9. A fountain
10. A horse
12. A maze
13. A library
14. A movie poster substitute item a 4-leaf clover

19. An outdoor stairway

20. A swing hanging from a tree

21. me with something that symbolizes my nation (the flag, not Mandeville, althouugh he sort of represented UK this summer)

Finishing the Scavenge Hunt Pictures at the London 2012 Paralympics

Wow! What a fantastic day we had at the London 2012 Paralympics at the Excel Centre. It was R's 10th birthday treat, but it was also a great experience for P and I. I took loads of photos, which I'll share in a separate post, but it also allowed me to complete Rinda's Summer Scavenge Hunt.

5. A train...
and a Tube...
and the Docklands Light Railway
21. A Picture of me standing with something that symbolises my nation - a flag. The photo quality is abysmal, because i forgot to chnage my camera settings when I came out of the stadium,  but more on this in later post too.

16. A bride. I'd given up on this one, but I found this as I was reading Scrap365 on the train!

4. A raodside stall selling somethinbg - lots of them actually - it's a Vide Grenier (Car Boot Sale) but it is in the road.

I din't get No1 A pier or No18 A Movie Poster (though there were plenty of adverts for West End Shows on the Underground) so I'd like to submit my 2 substitute items:
Heart-shaped stones from a bowl in my living room

A four-leaf clover - a sheet of scrapbook paper from my stash

I would like to declare myself finished. Thanks, Rinda, for adding another dimension to my summer.

15 down, 9 to go. - A little history lesson

No 6 on Rinda's Scavenge Hunt is a Historical Landmark. We have been very rural this holiday but the lure of the tourist sites won out this last week so I have a choice of historical landmarks for you.

This is the ruins of the eleventh century castle at Domfront. It was occupied from 1049 (by William the Conqueror) until about 1567. It was destroyed in the 17th Century, but the grounds are preserved as a very pleasant park, and you can go down into the original ramparts, which are now 10 feet underground.

This is almost directly outside our house in France. Our village stands on a crossroads, which was of strategic importance during the German Counter-Attack on 4th August 1944. The wording, in English and French, gives the details of the armies' movements.

Finally, THE historical monument in Northern France, Le Mont St Michel. We didn't go up this year - much too touristy in August - but we did go to a reptile farm within sight of it and P, who must have been feeling unusually accommodating, agreed to stop the car on the way back so I could snap this.

I'll leave with a few scaly reptiles, and my children:

Extra Scavenge Hunt photos

I still have 7 items to find on Ronda's scavenge hunt, but we took the kids to a local fete communale (village fete) on Sunday and was able to duplicate 3 items. I'm sure it's cheating to submit more than one picture in a category, but I like them. I'll make my final selection at the end of the hunt, but in the meantime here are the French versions of:
someone playing a musical instrument - a very aged accordian player (in both senses!)
someone dancing -  traditional Norman folk dance, accompanied by the gentleman on the accordian
and a horse; a much more handsome specimen than the pony  Mary was riding in my first version

14 down, 7 to go

I knew there would be no shortage of white stone Norman churches to photograph this month - here are 2  within 4 km of our house - I think Bellefontaine is the prettier.
I was less confident about being able to find a maze, though. Fortunately, a compulsory part of every trip to Normandy is a visit to Le Village Enchantee, also in Bellefontaine. It has certainly enchanted my kids, although the novelty wore off 2 years ago for P and me. They have added some new attractions for this summer season, including this inflatable maze. Result! That's another one ticked off.

This 'outdoor stairway'

and this fountain were scavenged in Ducey; a really pretty town which we visited for a vide grenier (car boot sale) and fair.

All I have left are:
a roadside stall;
movie poster;
a pier - I might struggle with this, as they are not a feature of the Norman coast
a bride - no weddings on the horizon for me this year so I don't know if I'll manage this one.
a train;
an historical landmark;
 something representing my country  - I know I will be able to get these when we go up to the Paralympics. By the Way - I'm so proud to be British this summer. This time last year, London was in the grip of riots, now we are 3rd in the Olympic Medal table. What a fantastic Olympics! If you read my Storytelling Sunday post you'll know how

6 down, 15 to go

I have another 3 finds to share from the last week.

7. Someone playing a musical instrument
This is my eldest nephew playing in his school steel band at our town's Party in the Park. He's in the red hoodie. It was the first time I have heard them play - and they are fab. A really cool sound.

8. A statue of an angel
Our town Square has been a building site for months, but I knew I'd be able to get this picture as soon as all the scaffolding had been removed. This is the War Memorial and, until very recently, it stood in front of the library, but there has been a major renovation and the library is now out of sight behind the new Cafe Rouge. That's my Statue of an Angel.

13. A library
Since I couldn't kill two birds with one stone with the last picture, I took a snap of the Learning Resource Centre (library to you and me) at college.

That's six down, fifteen to go. How are you getting on?
