Today I learned that it starts much earlier than I expected. M is 3 and has only been at nursery (pre-school) for 4 days. This is what she said at teatime today:
M: "Phebe and me are best friends, so we don't talk to anyone else".
Mummy: " It's nice to have a best friend. Why don't you talk to some other girls too?"
M: "No. You can only have one best friend"
Oh dear, I expected this when she was a teenager, but....!
